You ever sat down with a plate of rice, stew, and fried plantain… and it hit you?

I eat this every single day. But I don’t even know what the hell it’s doing inside me.

What am I feeding? Muscles? Sadness? My future? My cravings? My guilt?

Nobody tells us that what we eat isn’t just about “not dying.” It’s about how you live. How you show up. How you feel in your body.

And let’s be real… most of us are eating like toddlers with data and delivery apps.

The Key Takeaway.

Nutrition isn’t just about food, it’s about how your body handles chaos. It’s the real quiet reason you’re tired, foggy, hormonal, cranky, bloated, moody, or just… not fully here. You don’t need a PhD to understand it, you need to stop outsourcing your body to “vibes.”

So… What Even Is Nutrition?

Nutrition is not a boring term you skip over in textbooks. It’s literally your body’s user manual.

It’s the behind-the-scenes engine room where everything like your skin, your mood, your sleep, your period, even your peace, gets decided.

Nutrition is how your body takes what you give it and turns it into what you live with.

  • It’s not about weight or aesthetics.
  • It’s about what is holding your body up every single day.

And if you’re not paying attention to that? You’re walking around with no map and a leaking fuel tank.

What Is Your Food Actually Doing?

Macronutrients.

These are your body’s main fuel types. The big boys. They’re like the bricks and cement of a building. Or the fuel in your generator. You only need three. Just three. But boy, they run the whole show:

Carbs.

Carbs are NOT your enemy. Whoever said that, fight them. Carbs are like electricity. They light up your whole system. That mood swing you thought was spiritual? Nah. Probably low carbs.

Your brain literally feeds on glucose and guess what makes glucose? Carbs.

Too little? You feel foggy, faint, frustrated, or fake-deep. And no, not all carbs are created equal.

  • Bread, sugar, soda = fast cash. Spend quick, crash hard.
  • Beans, oats, sweet potatoes = long-term investment. Slow and rich.

If your body were a phone? Carbs are the charger.

No carbs = you’re operating on 1% and fake-smiling through it.

Protein.

Protein is not just for bodybuilders and gym rats. It’s for healing.

  • Cut your finger? Protein.
  • Trying to grow that ass? Protein.
  • Hair falling off? Period cramps?
  • Low stamina? Yup. Protein.

Protein is what your body uses to repair stuff. It builds muscle, fixes cells, supports hormones, and keeps you full.

Not eating enough? You’re not just tired, you’re breaking. Quietly.

And, your body doesn’t store protein. If you don’t eat it today, you don’t get to borrow it from yesterday. Scary, right?

Fats.

First of all: FAT DOESN’T MAKE YOU FAT.

Overeating + sedentary life does.

Healthy fats are actually your hormonal bodyguards. They protect your organs, keep your skin juicy, stabilize your mood, and carry fat-soluble vitamins.

  • Think of fats like the body’s insurance policy.
  • They’re not flashy, but when stuff hits? They carry you.

Avocados. Eggs. Palm oil. Nuts. Real butter.

These are not the enemy. That 3-day-old french fries oil? Now that’s the villain.

Micronutrients.

The small but mighty things.

Micronutrients = vitamins + minerals.

They don’t give energy, they help energy work. They’re like the oil in a machine, you don’t see it, but without it, the whole system breaks down.

Iron.

Low iron isn’t just about blood. It’s about always being tired. You ever feel sleepy after 10 hours of sleep? Yeah. That’s not laziness, it could be low iron.

Vitamin D.

Sunshine? Yes.

But also: mood, immunity, bones.

You think you’re sad because life is hard? Maybe. But also… you haven’t seen the sun in 3 weeks and your food has ZERO vitamin D.

Magnesium.

Sleep. Stress. Digestion. Cramps.

Magnesium is the chill pill your body needs, but nobody’s eating enough of it.

That restless leg? That PMS rage? That random anxiety?

Could be your magnesium begging for backup.

B Vitamins.

The energy squad. The nervous system’s hype team. If you’re always on edge, snapping at people, can’t concentrate, or lowkey want to cry all the time… Your B vitamins might be MIA.

Zinc.

Immune system. Skin. Wound healing. Sex hormones.

Zinc is that quiet guy in the background keeping things functioning. But when it’s missing? Whew. Breakouts. Weak immunity. Mood swings. The works.

So Why Don’t We Know All This Already?

  • Because we weren’t taught.
  • Not in school. Not at home.
  • We learned hunger, not nutrition. We learned full, not fueled.
  • We’re chasing “fit bodies” with 0 clue how food even functions.
  • We judge ourselves for cravings without ever asking, “Is my body missing something?”

It’s wild how we’re expected to “love ourselves” but never taught how to feed ourselves properly. That’s like saying, “Fix the car with love,” but no one gives you the toolbox.

Your body is talking. You’re just not listening. And once you understand the basics? You realize nutrition isn’t about dieting. It’s about decoding. Decoding what’s working. What’s missing. What needs support.
