Why plateaus happen in weight loss
One of the main reasons weight loss plateaus happens is something called adaptive thermogenesis. When you consistently eat less than your body burns, your body responds by becoming more efficient. It lowers the number of calories it burns for the same activities. It reduces heat production. It adjusts hormone levels to encourage you to eat more. Your body is not broken. It is doing exactly what it evolved to do, which is survive.
This is not a willpower issue. It is biology. And understanding it means you can plan for it rather than feel like a failure when it happens. The solution is to create a new challenge, either by reducing calories slightly further, increasing your activity, or changing the type of exercise you are doing to burn more.
How to break through a weight loss plateau
You just need to do a few things right, and you’d be able to break through.
1 . Intentionally monitor how many macros you’re eating, so you can be sure you’re getting enough of them.
2 . Strength train to build muscle and increase your metabolism, which can help you burn fat and lose weight. You can start lifting weights, even a 2-4 kg dumbbell can help. Bodyweight exercises like pull-ups, push-ups, squats, and jumping jacks can also help you in your weight loss journey.
3 . Walk a lot more. Walking is very effective when it comes to burning fat, which may help to lose weight. So, increasing your daily steps may help you move past the plateau faster.
