Travelling is exciting, but it does put your body under real stress. Long flights, new environments, disrupted sleep, unfamiliar food — all of it adds up. The good news is that a bit of preparation goes a long way.

Traveling smart: Before you leave the house

It’s very important to have a good prep routine before you go.

Get checked by your doctor. And find out if there are any necessary vaccines or prescriptions you need to take.

Have a basic kit where you have things like,

  • Your hand sanitizer (a must)
  • Pain relievers
  • Or any other medication you need

This one is going to help you a lot.

Scan and save copies of any important documents you have, like your,

  • Passport
  • ID
  • And insurance

On your mobile phone.

Also, remember to turn off any electrical appliances at home.

You don’t want to meet any issues when you get back from your trip. Also, make sure the doors are properly locked. And if you can, keep your trip private. Not everyone needs to know you’re traveling and won’t be home.

Or that you’re traveling, only tell people that you trust.

Jet lag weakens your immune system and you need to take it seriously

Most people think of jet lag as just tiredness. But crossing time zones disrupts your circadian rhythm, your body’s internal clock, and this disruption specifically affects how well your immune system works. Research shows that poor sleep and circadian disruption can make you more susceptible to illness.
This is one reason people so often get sick on or right after long trips. To reduce the effect: get sunlight at your destination as early as possible (it helps reset your clock), stay hydrated, limit alcohol and caffeine on flights, and try to adjust to local sleep times quickly rather than napping through the day.

While you’re travelling

Eat smart and pick fresh foods. And be mindful of street foods.

Also, you need to drink lots of water.

  • Especially on flights
  • And during hot seasons

Also, get a water bottle with a filter. It can remove germs from your water to ensure you’re drinking clean water.

Move around by stretching and walking during long travel periods. Don’t just sit all through; your body needs proper circulation.Explore areas on foot. And not with transportation. Walking to places is much better and a way of traveling smart.

Take the stairs whenever you can, at the hotel you’re staying at. Avoid using the elevator all the time, it’ll help you stay physically active on your trip.

Stay clean

Make sure you regularly wash your hands. It is very easy to pick up germs, while traveling. It can help you stay safe.

Make an effort not to touch your face; you might transfer germs to your face. Especially when you are outside or in public places.

When you go out, take sanitizing wipes to clean surfaces like,

  • Airplane tray tables
  • Or restaurant tables

Sleep and get some rest

It’s fun and exciting to be on a trip, but you need some quality rest too. Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep, but it depends on your schedule.

Or your plans for your trip.

You can have a lot of fun, but don’t forget to rest. It is very important.

Take a sleep mask and earplugs along with you, to help you sleep whenever you want. The more energy you have, the more fun you can have. Also, give yourself time to adjust to the new schedules; it’ll be okay.

Take care of your mental health

Try to take breaks and don’t schedule too many things. You don’t want to get stressed on your trip.

Also, keep in touch with your family, And, share your itinerary with them. It’s also a good way to be safe. Take some minutes to meditate or practice mindfulness; it can help too.

A small advice from Medspurs

Remember, don’t post in real time.

Learn to post after you’ve left a place or even when you are back from your trip. It’s a way to protect yourself.

The bottom line

When you go on a trip, make it a priority to stay healthy.

It is all about,

  • being  well prepared,
  • making smart decisions
  • including being safe

And you can enjoy your trip.
