Preventive health : what it means and why it matters

It’s so much better to prevent illnesses than to treat them, and this is where preventive health comes in. It helps us reduce the risk of getting really sick and improve our health. 

Everybody needs to practice preventive health.

What is preventive health?

It refers to the steps we take to keep ourselves from developing diseases and make sure we’re safe and healthy. 

It’s a way to stay two steps ahead of your health. 

Why does preventive health matter?

It matters because it can: 

  • Lower your risk of diseases: Since preventive health is all about taking smart steps to protect your body, it also reduces your chances of developing SERIOUS diseases. 
  • Help you have a better: It can help you feel great about taking those steps to improve your health.
  • Save your life: Regular checkups, health screenings, and vaccinations can literally save your life. 

It’s better to be safe than sorry. 

Ways to practice it 

1 . Go for regular checkups and health screenings to know if anything is brewing in your body, before it becomes a huge problem. 

2 . Practice healthy habits like:

  • working out
  • eating healthy foods
  • managing stress
  • drinking responsibly
  • staying away from smoking,
  • not doing drugs
  • Reducing your screen time 

3 . Stay safe by not being outside too late, especially in lonely places, as it can be dangerous. 

Do your best to be home quickly; this can help prevent ugly situations from happening. 

4 . Clean your environment regularly, like:

  • your house
  • inside and outside of your car
  • front yard
  • garage

And so on. It’s important to stay in a clean and healthy environment, so you don’t get infected by germs.

5 . Try to know the latest on vaccinations, to help prevent you from infectious diseases.

6 . Sleep early, so your body can rest, and you won’t become sleep-deprived. Studies suggest that adults get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep, so work with this. 

7 . Do regular screenings for diseases like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes to catch them in their early stages. It may help treatments to be more effective, unlike if they go too deep into your body. 

8 . Take care of your mental health by asking for help when you need to and practicing self-care.
