6 Ideas For Val’s Day In A Long Distance Relationship.

People say absence makes the heart grow fonder. But, being apart when every other couple is together IS HARD! All those online time spent together will not be fun at first, but if you look closely, there’s a quiet magic in those simple moments. Every laugh you’ve shared over a video chat, every surprise gift or mailed letter is a hope of love. It is in these ordinary exchanges love proves to us that distance doesn’t reduce its warmth and worth, it says that it only makes each time together, even though it is virtual, very precious.

So, How Can You Enjoy Valentine’s Day In A Long Distance Relationship?

I’ll be very clear, even when you’re far apart, you can still make Valentine’s Day feel good. So, I would give you a list of how I would celebrate the day if I were in a long-distance relationship. Don’t worry, they’re simple ideas that you or anyone can follow.

  • Send a Cheesy Good Morning Message: Start your Val’s day by sending your partner a cheesy video message or text that says something cheesy or maybe, just maybe, cute. Trust me when I tell you that cheesy messages during the day will make both of you feel closer. It’s funny, it’s cute, besides, love ain’t gonna slide down easy if it ain’t cheesy. But hey, it’s a small, simple way to remind each other that love is there, even if you’re not in the same room.
  • Do Nothing: We all want to do something on Valentine’s Day and the pressure is ridiculous! It’s a day for every other couple on earth, it’s completely okay to ignore the day. Why? In the end, Valentine’s Day is just another day. Every day you’re together is worth celebrating, just because you have each other. You don’t need a February 14th to do more and your relationship doesn’t have to suffer because of that. Just make sure you tell each other how much you love and appreciate each other. Do that every day, not just on the special days. Take the Valentine pressure off your necks.
  • Have a Virtual Dinner Date: Plan a dinner where both of you eat at the same time. I know you’re in different places but wait, plan a dinner date even if it’s just at home, wear something nice as if you were going out, set the mood by lighting some candles, put on soft music, use warm dim lights, you know what to do, eat the same meal or maybe not, as you eat, talk on a video call and talk as if you were together in person.
  • Do Something Personal: Write a letter by hand. It doesn’t have to be crazy, it can be a few lines telling your partner why you love them. Post it to them so they can hold a piece of you. You can also make and send a small gift with their favorite things, get them something on their wishlist, something really.
  • Plan for the Future: Talk about when you’ll meet in person. Even if it’s a simple conversation about a planned weekend or a future trip, having something to look forward to can brighten your day. Planning your next meetup turns longing and sadness into excitement and hope.
  • Have an Online Game Night: Try playing online games that both you and your partner can enjoy together. You could try online puzzles, race games, card games, anything at all. When you play together, you strengthen your relationship across the miles. My boyfriend and I are not in long distance but we do it all the time and we bond like crazy.

No matter where you are, your partner is just a call, or a letter away. Happy Valentine’s Day, and may your love always shine bright even from afar.
